[Hinews] SEOUL, South Korea — Yonsei Sarang Hospital has earned a U.S. patent for its innovative “Femur Size Measuring Device,” a significant advancement in orthopedic surgical technology.

The patented device enhances the precision of rotational alignment for femoral cutting guides during total knee arthroplasty. By integrating a stylus with an anteroposterior (AP) sizer and incorporating interchangeable anterior and posterior pin guides, the instrument adapts to diverse anatomical conditions. This technology improves surgical accuracy and optimizes patient-specific outcomes.

Led by Dr. Yong-Gon Koh, the hospital’s orthopedic team has applied the device in hundreds of procedures, with patients demonstrating faster recovery times and higher satisfaction compared to conventional methods. The device also reduces intraoperative demands on surgeons while enhancing measurement reliability.

Building on an earlier South Korean patent, this U.S. patent strengthens Yonsei Sarang Hospital’s position in the global medical device market. “Precise osteotomy is critical to successful joint replacement surgery,” Dr. Koh stated. “This patent underscores our globally recognized technological expertise.”
