[Hinews] SEOUL, South Korea — The Urology Department at Korea University Anam Hospital announced on July 17 that it has completed 3,000 robotic surgeries, marking the first time a single department within the hospital has reached this benchmark.

The department initiated its robotic surgery program in July 2007, steadily increasing its caseload with 1,000 procedures by 2019 and 2,000 by 2023. These surgeries primarily address bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and kidney cancer, utilizing robotic systems for intricate, high-precision operations. Certain procedures are conducted entirely with robotic techniques, showcasing advancements in surgical practices and ongoing research.

The application of robotic surgery has expanded to include female urologic reconstruction and kidney stone treatment. Select physicians are also engaging with international medical societies and academic institutions to enhance techniques and exchange expertise.

A hospital spokesperson underscored the significance of this achievement, stating, “Through years of experience and technological progress, we are elevating patient safety and surgical accuracy.”
